You submitted 52 great trip ideas to our Hawai’i Challenge. The goal of the challenge was to encourage individuals and nonprofits to create projects that benefit local communities in Hawaii through travel. A big Mahalo to all of you who participated!
Each entry was unique and innovative, representing a wide range of sustainable travel concepts. Based on the community vote and the jury’s consideration of the creativity, effectiveness, impact, feasibility and sustainability of all trip ideas we have a winner:
The H.E.R.O. Club with their trip idea “The Hawai’i Trash Trail on the Big Island“.
The group gets $500 to go on the trip to make their project happen. Adam from the H.E.R.O. Club: „On behalf of the H.E.R.O. Club at Kaiser High School we are excited and energized beyond measure to hear the news! Knowing that this idea will come to fruition with the help of multiple organizations and clubs is an excitingly-beautiful opportunity. We are eager to get started and looking forward to the next round of steps to realizing our idea. MAHALO travel2change!“
We recognized that many ideas are still in an early stage and need further refinement. The remaining budget from the crowdfunding campaign and fundraiser with Otto will be put aside to support future travel2change projects in Hawai’i. We encourage you to refine your ideas and submit new projects to our new website, which will be live on August 30.“The Hawai’i challenge was just the beginning. We are confident in people’s willingness to change the way we travel. The creativity and collaboration of our community will make this possible,” says Thomas, founder of travel2change. “Our upcoming new platform will allow us to better connect travelers, locals and nonprofit organizations in Hawai’i to create meaningful change”.
Congratulations to the H.E.R.O. Club and thanks to everyone who participated. Please stay tuned and help travel2change the world for the better.
