Belove a Nursery & Help grow a brighter tomorrow at our Botanical Garden

by NTBG at McBryde on Kauai (National Tropical Botanical Gardens, Kauai)

Help care for our nursery plants in one of the most revered botanical gardens in the Pacific, located on the garden island of Kauai.  Join us in our Conservation Nursery to weed plants in pots, transplant our growing nursery stock, and provide love to Hawaii’s native plants—many rare and endangered—in our comfortable nursery.  Your contributions have a direct, tangible impact on NTBG’s mission to enrich life by perpetuating tropical plants, ecosystems and cultural knowledge.

  • Volunteer in a unique conservation nursery on Kauai Island.

  • Shade screens provide protection from the sun in most areas.

  • Ground is level gravel or concrete.

  • Most work is at waist-high work tables—there is limited bending/reaching/stretching.

  • Sit-down jobs out of the sun available upon request.

  • You will experience the heartbeat of our botanical garden’s conservation work.

Conservation Nursery Time commitment: Mondays or Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Horticultural Assistant:

McBryde Garden is a botanical treasure house of tropical flora, containing collections of native Hawaiian species and many other plants that have been wild collected from the tropical regions of the world. We are seeking volunteers to help us care for these plants by planting, weeding, watering, trimming, and raking.

This role would suit someone who is interested in learning more about plants and gaining skills in gardening. You will be working under the supervision of the Horticulture Team. No plant experience needed.

  • Volunteer in the Allerton Garden or McBryde Garden on Kauai Island.
  • This role will require bending and some light lifting.

  • Shade is limited and with minimal-to-no protection from the sun and rain.

  • Ground is uneven gravel or muddy terrain.

  • You will be surrounded by rare plants and help fight invasive species.

Horticulture Time commitment: Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
