Coastline Hike & Restoration at Turtle Bay

by North Shore Community Land Trust

Our coastal hiking adventure to Kahuku Point, the northern most area of Oahu, will begin with a 90 minute guided hiking tour of the coastline from Turtle Bay Resort. Once we arrive at Kahuku Point, we’ll work as a team in the sand to plant native species and remove invasive varieties that threaten the local vegetation.

The guided Kahuku Point Hike takes volunteers along the stunningly beautiful coastline of Turtle Bay Resort, offering the opportunity to see monk seals, humpback whales, sea turtles, seabirds, and shorebirds. The journey will take us through sand dunes full of lush vegetation, past wind swept trees and rocky coral, and on to the restoration work site. Along the way, we’ll learn about the history and cultural significance of Kahuku Point, hear some local legends and become knowledgeable about native species. The Kahuku Point hike is a three-mile long beginner’s level hike that normally retails for $20 per person. All travel2change volunteers will receive the experience for free in return for helping to restore nature in one of Oahu’s most beautiful locations.

  1. North shore with a purpose

I enjoyed the hike and learning about Hawaii’s native plants. A great way to experience the North Shore in a meaningful way, rather than just handing out at the beach.
